Smile & Move™ Tips.Smile & Move™ tips and ideas (anywhere)

Use the tips below to encourage a Smile & Move™ movement in your world. (Have any ideas we haven’t thought of? We’d love it if you’d share them with us.)

  • Stick a Smile & Move™ decal on your car to help spread the message in your area.
  • Resolve to smile—genuinely smile—at just one more person
    each day.
  • If you coach an athletic team, hand out a Smile & Move™ award to your most valuable player at the end of the season. A Smile & Move™ duffle bag will work great.
  • Make a list of things you’re thankful for and look at it when you have the urge to complain.
  • Commit to ending negativity by wearing a Complainless wristband.
  • Praise others when you see them smiling and moving at work, at home, or out in the world. Recognizing the behavior in this way will only encourage more of it.
  • Give the Smile & Move™ book as a gift for graduating high school or college students, sending them into the world with a call to contribute their verse. Wouldn't it be great if everyone you interviewed was a Smile & Mover?
  • Reinforce the message all year long with different Smile & Move™ gear (shirts, hats, mugs, etc.).
  • Teach a child about Smile & Move™ with the materials on the Smile & Move™ kids' web pages.
  • Set aside time at the end of week to evaluate how you’ve handled your responsibilities (at school, at home, on the field, etc). What did you do well? What could you improve on? Use your answers to set goals for the following week.
  • Thank someone for great service (such as your waiter, the counter person at the bagel shop or at the drycleaners) with a Smile & Move™ gratitude card.
  • Say TGIM (Thank God it’s Monday)... and mean it.
  • When a friend or family member speaks to you, be sure to turn away from your book, or the television or computer screen. Face the person. Make eye contact and smile.
  • Express your gratitude in an intimate, meaningful way by mailing someone special—a grandparent, friend, or even your spouse—a handwritten card. (This is just one way to go beyond expectations in your relationships.)
